Peps Industries to set up factory for mattresses

HYDERABAD: After fervently spearheading the campaign to put Hyderabad on Unesco's heritage list, albeit without success, the Telangana government has now redirected its focus on the districts surrounding the twin cities, which they agree have been a neglected lot. Warangal, the second largest city in Telangana, has been identified as a 'spiritual' and religious destination and several theme-based tourism circuits will soon be developed to promote the Kakatiya style of architecture and sculpture, distinguished by rock-cut elephants and structures made of black basalt, found in many parts of the district. Brochures recently released by the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (TSTDC) feature pictures and brief descriptions of the stunning temples and lakes of a city steeped in a wealth of architecture. The First International Short Film Festival at Warangal on June 15, 16 and 17

The district will be hosting the first International Short Film Festival on June 15, 16 and 17. A team of film lovers under the banner of International Short Film Festival Kakatiya (ISFFK) and Light Line Entertainment Productions, both based in Hyderabad, are organising the event. Tribal Welfare and Tourism Minister A. Chandulal released the publicity material of the event here on Saturday. The event will be held at Kakatiya University auditorium. The Minister said the district was endowed with beautiful tourist spots and offered excellent opportunities to film-makers. Film Festival chairman and ISFFK founder G. Bhadrappa said that as many as 100 entries from 20 countries have been received so far. The theme of the festival is ‘Human life and nature’. Entry is open for all and free delegate passes will be provided to visitors. Film personalities like Guna Shekar, Anushka, Gopi Chand and Sujith have been invited for the inaugural. GWMC, the WOW has set up 18 dry resource collection centres (DRCC)

Warangal: Here is a little initiative that aspires environmental protection, is also proving beneficial for the sanitation workers whose thankless job continuing without impunity for ages. Thanks to the Well-being Out of Waste (WOW), an initiative of the ITC, a diversified multi-business conglomerate. The aim of the programme is to inculcate the habit of source segregation prior to collection of post-consumer waste. The initiative might sound nothing new, but the programme gives an opportunity to sanitation workers earn a few bucks. Under the programme, the sanitation workers get Rs 4.50 per kilogramme for the dry waste they collected through the push carts in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) area. In a joint venture with the GWMC, the WOW has set up 18 dry resource collection centres (DRCC) operated by the self-help groups (SHGs) to purchase the dry waste from the sanitation workers across the Corporation. A Super-Speciality Hospital will come up on the existing Warangal Central Prison premises

Warangal: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said that a super-speciality hospital will come up on the existing Warangal Central Prison premises by shifting the jail to a suburban area. The CM, after conducting a video conference with the district collectors in the State, held a separate meeting with the people's representatives of the erstwhile Warangal district here on Friday. "The existing jail premises will make way for a super-speciality hospital, and the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) will be turned into a modern mother and child health (MCH) centre," the CM said. The super-speciality hospital would be developed on par with the best, so as to cater to the needs of people from across the State, the CM said. This apart, there was an imminent need to bolster the medicare in the region by providing all the facilities in the primary health centres (PHCs), he added.
