Peps Industries to set up factory for mattresses

The makers of inner spring mattresses Peps Industries would set up a factory in Hyderabad or Warangal to meet the demand in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Bihar, according to G Shankarram, its joint managing director.

Initially, the factory It would make 150 mattresses a day, which would later be increased to 300 mattresses per day.

“We are doing well in south India. In AP alone, we are doing 1,000 mattresses a month. We see big potential in AP and this would mean we need to strengthen our presence,” he said.

Started in 2005. Peps now is a Rs 100 crore company and has ventured into the retailing of mattresses with its own Sleep Stores as well.

The spring mattress market in India is estimated to be Rs 350 crore. However, it has potential to grow eight to nine fold. “We will target the luxury, health and super luxury segments of mattresses priced Rs 6,000 to Rs 1.4 lakh. We are also exploring institutional sales opportunities like hotels and hospitals,” he said.
