Warangal (Urban): The District Forest Department is developing a park for the convenience of the city dwellers at Rampur on the outskirts of the city under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits. The estimated cost of the park is Rs 2.7 crore and it is coming up in a sprawling 20.2 acres of land abutting the highway.
According to the Forest Range Officer (FRO) Dr Punnamchander, who is monitoring the developmental works of the park, a cycling track, open gym, footpath, cafe, lotus pond, memorial plantation, and other amenities would be developed for the use of the visitors.
“We are developing the park with the funds sanctioned by the district Collector Amrapali Kata. The works will be completed by end of September or October,” he added.
It may be recalled that the forest department is already developing a park at Elkathurthy village about 17 km away from Hanamkonda with an estimated cost of Rs 1.47 crore. With a view to create more lung space for the residents of the Warangal city, the State government has decided to set up the park in 35 hectares.
The Forest Department is developing the area into a major tourist spot so that people could revel amid nature. As a part of the development works, children’s play area, cycling track, walkers’ track, cafeteria and parking for the vehicles are being developed at the park.
On the other hand, the GWMC has recently invited expression of interest (EOI) for the redevelopment of the facilities at the Kakatiya Musical Garden (KMG) from the architects/landscape designers. The last date for the submission of the EOI is July 7.
The KMG will be developed in an iconic manner under the Smart City mission with around Rs 14 crore. Located just one km away from the famous Bhadrakali temple, the park is spread over 15 acres of land abutting the Bhadrakali lake. It hogged the limelight six to seven years ago as it had a musical fountain with lights, which was a hit among the children as well as adults.
However, it lost its sheen as it was leased out to a private firm for maintenance and due to negligence by KUDA authorities. The musical fountain no longer works and there is no boating at the lake. However, the GWMC is going to redevelop the KMG soon.
