Taking a cue from the Swachh Bharat programme, the district administration is planning to implement ‘Swachh Patashala’ programme
involving over three lakh children.
A programme titled ‘Water, Sanitation and Hygiene’ (Wash) would be taken up under the aegis of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan which would be monitored by Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and UNICEF. A two-day training programme for 3,000 headmasters just concluded here where they were taught about the objective of the programme and how they could ensure implementation of the same. According to Deputy Educational Officer Mahabubabad, A Ravinder Reddy, headmasters from different government schools of the division participated in the one-day orientation programme on WASH programme, organised by School Education Department at Fathima High School here on Saturday.
Action plan
“A school level action plan containing 51 questions on the state of infrastructure and behavioural practices with regard to water and sanitation was filled up by the school heads. This will be the primary source of data to benchmark the facilities available in schools.
The data will be analysed by ASCI experts who will benchmark the schools,” he explained.
Focus on awareness
Senior teacher and environment activist, V Gurunadha Rao said Swachh Patashala programme aims at enhancing provision of WASH services to children especially girls and the disadvantaged on a sustained basis, create awareness and promote good behaviour among key stakeholder group.
The programme also aims at enhancing institutional capacity for sustaining service delivery in schools.
Children should be taught to wash hands after playing and returning from outdoors.
The District Educational Officer Y Chandramohan said the students would be made to wash their hands before and after consuming food and use toilets. The teachers in respective schools would monitor this.
