HYDERABAD: Warangal, Hyderabad from Telangana and Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Kakinada from Andhra Pradesh made it to the list of 100 Smart Cities that the NDA government at the Centre proposes to develop in the coming years. The list of cities was finalised at a meeting of the high-level committee of the Union Urban Development Ministry in Delhi on Thursday. The notification of the list of cities is to be issued on Monday. The TRS government had sent the names of three cities, but Karimnagar could not make the cut. However, the competition is far from over as the Centre proposes to take up the development of 20 out of the 100 as smart cities in the first phase, with the remaining cities will be taken up thereafter. All the 100 cities will be given Rs 2 crore each for preparation of the master plan and the same has to be submitted to the Union government within 100 days of the notification. A five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘cyber security’ at Warangal NIT

Warangal Urban: A five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘cyber security’ was inaugurated by Director, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, Prof N V Ramana Rao through online using ‘go-to-meetings’ app on Monday. The FDP is being conducted with the help of the AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy, New Delhi. While nearly 2,000 participants were registered, 300 participants were shortlisted and 200 participants were selected. Interacting with the participants, Prof N V Ramana Rao said, “It is very good opportunity to utilise it online in lockdown period. Learning online courses are very important and need to be updated regularly.” He also said that total of 83 programmes were selected by the AICTE (ATAL) Academy in online mode and NIT Warangal itself bagged eight FDP programme and CSE Department got six programs. HYDERABAD: After fervently spearheading the campaign to put Hyderabad on Unesco's heritage list, albeit without success, the Telangana government has now redirected its focus on the districts surrounding the twin cities, which they agree have been a neglected lot. Warangal: Here is a little initiative that aspires environmental protection, is also proving beneficial for the sanitation workers whose thankless job continuing without impunity for ages. Thanks to the Well-being Out of Waste (WOW), an initiative of the ITC, a diversified multi-business conglomerate. The aim of the programme is to inculcate the habit of source segregation prior to collection of post-consumer waste. The initiative might sound nothing new, but the programme gives an opportunity to sanitation workers earn a few bucks. Under the programme, the sanitation workers get Rs 4.50 per kilogramme for the dry waste they collected through the push carts in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) area. In a joint venture with the GWMC, the WOW has set up 18 dry resource collection centres (DRCC) operated by the self-help groups (SHGs) to purchase the dry waste from the sanitation workers across the Corporation. Warangal: At a time when the neonatal mortality rate is high, the MGM Hospital in Warangal is all set to become north Telangana’s neonatal healthcare hub. If all goes well, superspecialty course, Doctor of Medicine in Neonatology (second PG), which is a rarity in the country, is likely to be introduced in Kakatiya Medical College soon.
